The Ministry of Foreign Affairs warns Romanian citizens that, between 28 October and 4 December 2026, traffic restrictions will be imposed on the Giurgiu-Ruse Friendship Bridge due to works on the expansion joints. Traffic will proceed alternately, on a single lane, including at night, and will be directed by traffic lights.

The works will be carried out in two stages. Between 28 October and 13 November, the interventions will take place on no more than half of the carriageway corresponding to roadway 1. Between 14 November and 4 December, the works will move to the side corresponding to roadway 2.

The MFA recommends that people transiting the Giurgiu-Ruse border crossing plan their journey in advance, take delays into account and, if possible, use alternative routes or less busy time periods. Drivers must follow the instructions of police officers and the other authorities.

Updated information about the works and traffic is available on the websites of the Bulgarian authorities. For consular assistance, Romanians may contact the Embassy of Romania in Sofia or the emergency number indicated by the MFA.
