Traffic on the Giurgiu–Ruse Friendship Bridge will operate alternately on a single lane during October 19–22 and October 26–29 due to work on the expansion joints. The Giurgiu Territorial Inspectorate of the Border Police warns that the restrictions may increase waiting times when crossing the border between Romania and Bulgaria.
The first stage begins on Monday, October 19, at 09:00, and ends on Thursday, October 22, at 17:00. During this interval, the right-hand lane will be closed, and vehicles will travel alternately in both directions on the left-hand lane.
The second stage is scheduled from Monday, October 26, at 09:00, until Thursday, October 29, at 17:00. The left-hand lane will then be closed, and traffic will operate alternately on the right-hand lane.
During both periods, traffic will be directed by designated personnel, who will allow vehicles from each direction to pass at intervals of approximately 20 minutes. The work is necessary to install the bridge’s expansion joints.
Authorities recommend that drivers plan their journeys with the restrictions and possible delays at the border crossing in mind. Waiting times are expected to increase particularly during busy periods.
