Road traffic on the Giurgiu–Ruse Friendship Bridge will be temporarily restricted between October 19 and 29, 2026, for construction work and the installation of expansion joints announced by the Bulgarian authorities. Traffic will be carried out alternately on a single lane, and drivers should expect longer waiting times.

According to the Giurgiu Territorial Inspectorate of the Border Police, during the first stage, between October 19 at 09:00 and October 22 at 17:00, the right-hand lane will be closed. Vehicles will travel in both directions, alternately, on the left-hand lane, with traffic being directed at intervals of approximately 20 minutes.

During the second stage, between October 26 at 09:00 and October 29 at 17:00, the left-hand lane will be closed. Traffic will proceed alternately on the right-hand lane, under the same conditions.

Romanian and Bulgarian authorities will take measures to ensure smooth traffic flow in the border area. Drivers are advised to plan their journeys taking the restrictions into account and to follow the instructions of traffic-control personnel.
