Rail traffic between Bulgaria and Romania will be completely halted on the Danube Bridge from April 5 to December 13, 2027, according to a report from the Bulgarian press, cited by the Rador news agency.

This interruption is necessary for a large-scale electrification and railway infrastructure restoration project on the Bucharest - Giurgiu section, funded by external sources.

The decision was coordinated between the National Company for Railway Infrastructure (CNIF) and the Romanian Railway Administrator, after evaluating construction activities.

During this period of over eight months, passenger and freight train traffic will be prohibited, and international traffic will be redirected through the border crossing points at Vidin and Kardam.

Romanian authorities have already notified railway carriers, requesting them to reorganize their logistics and submit applications for the new routes.

Although the project will bring logistical difficulties, it is expected that, after completion, it will improve travel speeds and optimize transport on the European route between Southeast Europe and Romania.
