The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has announced a sharp increase in Salmonella cases, with 207 confirmed infections since the beginning of the year, the majority in England. Those affected include infants and seniors, and several patients have developed severe bloodstream infections. The infection, which causes symptoms such as fever, nausea, and diarrhea, is usually contracted through the consumption of contaminated food.
UKHSA is investigating a possible link to imported eggs, considering that 114 cases are associated with five food businesses. Authorities urge the public to be cautious and to follow hygiene measures, such as thoroughly cooking eggs and washing hands. Although there are no recommendations to avoid eggs, the importance of purchasing them from trusted vendors is emphasized.
