The authorities in Greece have launched an investigation to identify the source of a Salmonella outbreak, confirmed by laboratory tests at the General Hospital in Lamia, in Central Greece.
The affected patients have presented symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting, and the Hellenic National Public Health Organization (EODY) is involved in investigating the link between the cases.
Initial data suggest that the affected individuals consumed food from various locations, which has led investigators to check the hypothesis of a common supplier. Health inspectors are collecting food samples and analyzing the product trace to determine the time and place of contamination.
Lamia, the town where the outbreak was discovered, is known for its historical and natural attractions. Salmonella infection, a common bacterium in foodborne illnesses, often occurs after consuming contaminated food, such as raw poultry or eggs. Laboratory tests continue to establish the exact source of the contamination.
