According to a preliminary report from INSEMEX, the explosion that occurred in Rahova was caused by gas leaks from an external pipe, not from the building's basement. The pipe had several cracks, and the gas reached the building underground, rising through the vertical column up to the 5th floor. Here, the gas accumulated in an apartment, and a spark caused the explosion, which resulted in the death of three women and injured another 15 people.
Experts analyzed a piece of the defective pipe, and residents reported a smell of gas even after the supply was shut off. INSEMEX, the institute responsible for investigating explosions, has been appointed by prosecutors to analyze the technical causes of the incident.
