The Romanian state is preparing to pay 1.2 million euros to redeem 120 original letters between Mihai Eminescu and Veronica Micle, documents that are extremely valuable for Romanian culture. These letters, part of Veronica Micle's heritage, are currently in the possession of a colonel from the United States. Each letter is valued between 8,000 and 12,000 euros.
The Minister of Culture, András Demeter, emphasized the importance of this endeavor, mentioning that the Romanian state does not have a right of preemption but has decided to purchase the correspondence on the open market. Negotiations for the repatriation of the letters are ongoing, and after their completion, the documents will be brought to Romania. This operation represents one of the most important initiatives for recovering Romanian cultural heritage in recent years.
