MNIR is launching the “Gold of the Dacians” stamp issue on Thursday, dedicated to the recovery of the historic treasure

The National Museum of Romanian History is launching on Thursday, at 14:00, the postage stamp issue “The Gold of the Dacians. The Restoration of the Historical Treasure,” as part of an event organized together with Romfilatelia and the Romanian National Postal Company.

The issue is dedicated to the Coțofenești helmet and the two Dacian bracelets, artefacts of exceptional importance to Romania’s heritage. The pieces were stolen in January 2025 from the Drents Museum in Assen, the Netherlands, and recovered by the Dutch authorities in 2026, subsequently being returned to the national heritage.

The design of the postage stamp and the “first day” envelope is by artist Mircea Cantor and includes images of the Dacian bracelets and a detail from the helmet. The visual concept is completed by a special item from the philatelic folder, in which yellow combined with the rope symbol refers to the gold of the artefacts and the message “History is rope.”

The miniature sheet of the issue presents actual images of the three pieces from the MNIR collection.

Mircea Cantor will attend the launch and sign autographs.

Visitors will be able to receive postcards and send them free of charge, on the spot, anywhere in the country.
