Major General and commander of the Central Military Emergency University Hospital 'Dr. Carol Davila', Florentina Ioniță has been placed under judicial control with a bail of 1 million lei, being accused of usurpation of function and abuse of office, with an estimated damage of 8.3 million lei. Ioniță illegally hired 18 active military personnel as experts within a project funded by European funds, despite the legal prohibition of holding multiple positions. DNA prosecutors have opened a criminal case based on several material acts, including the signing of documents in place of senior officials. Additionally, 18 suspects, including military personnel and medical staff, are involved in this abuse scheme, each being accused of complicity. Ioniță approved illegal operational procedures and ordered unjustified salary payments, thus causing significant damage to the budget of the European Union and the Romanian state. Prosecutors have instituted precautionary measures for the recovery of damages, and Ioniță must comply with strict obligations during the judicial control. The Minister of Defense has decided not to extend her mandate, considering the suspicions of corruption.
