Major General (ret.) Dorin Ioniță, former commander of the Joint Forces Command, was found dead on Friday inside a property in the town of Păulești, Prahova County. Authorities have opened an investigation to establish what happened in the hours preceding his death.
The general’s wife reportedly alerted the authorities after she was no longer able to contact him. She allegedly told police that Dorin Ioniță had left home during the night and was carrying a legally owned firearm. The crews who arrived at the address found him with no vital signs.
According to sources cited by Știripesurse, the general had a gunshot wound to the head. A pistol was found near the body; initial information indicates that it was legally owned. The weapon will undergo forensic examination, while the evidence and traces found at the property will be analyzed.
Investigators are also checking the victim’s most recent calls and contacts. Unconfirmed reports have emerged about a possible conflict linked to an alleged extramarital relationship, but these aspects have not been officially confirmed. The cause and manner of death will be established after the investigation and forensic examination are completed.
Dorin Ioniță led the Joint Forces Command and took part in coordinating operations, military exercises, and activities conducted in cooperation with NATO allies.
