Ukrainian forces announce the killing of Russian General Anton Grunis in a drone attack

Ukraine’s Drone Forces claim that Russian Major General Anton Grunis, commander of the 4th Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Southern Group of Forces, was killed in a nighttime drone attack on September 12 in the settlement of Kindrativka, in the Donetsk region, which is under Russian control.

The announcement was made Wednesday by Robert “Madiar” Brovdi, commander of the Drone Forces, who said the attack was carried out by soldiers from the 427 SBS Raroh Brigade. According to him, Grunis is the seventh Russian military commander eliminated by Ukrainian drone units.

The information was not officially and systematically announced by Russia’s Ministry of Defense. However, General Apti Alaudinov, commander of the Akhmat Unit, confirmed Grunis’s death, saying that he “died a hero.”

The Russian general received the Gold Star and the title of “Hero of Russia” at the end of August, one of the Russian Federation’s highest honors. In July, he reported to President Vladimir Putin that the city of Kostiantynivka had been captured. Ukraine and independent analysts challenged the claim at the time, while the Institute for the Study of War estimated that Russian troops were infiltrating the city without fully controlling it.
