During a debate in Parliament dedicated to the mental health of children, a fifth-grade student, Ilinca, emotionally addressed the issue of the pressure felt by students both at school and at home. While she emphasized that students are constantly judged and burdened by homework and tests, the Minister of Education, Mihai Dimian, was caught looking at his mobile phone, which sparked criticism.
Ilinca stated that most children feel overwhelming pressure and end up exhausted, wishing not to be in certain places.
"Most children feel pressure at school and hate that place. We become exhausted, with our social batteries running low. We are at zero. There are days when we simply wish not to be in certain places and we are forced to be there," the visibly emotional student said.
She mentioned her experience with Romanian language homework, which has been excessive and difficult. At the end of her emotional speech, she called for more practical activities and less pressure from the school.
"I want projects, I want things from which to learn. I do not want someone constantly behind me, giving me homework, tests, and all kinds of voices from behind telling me that I am nobody and that I do not deserve this attention and that I am zero."
Although she was applauded by the participants, the minister did not publicly respond to the issues raised. The debate brought together students, teachers, and representatives of youth organizations, focusing on the mental health of children in education.
