A legislative initiative submitted in Parliament by USR senators, Ruxandra Cibu Deaconu, Cynthia Păun, Sorin Șipoș, and George Ștefăneache, proposes that adolescents who have turned 16 years old should be able to access psychological intervention services, psychotherapy, and school counseling without needing the express consent of their parents. This proposal comes in the context where many young people fail to obtain the necessary help due to difficulties related to obtaining parental consent, especially in rural areas. The initiators emphasize that the age of 16 is in accordance with the principle of progressive autonomy in legislation.

Ruxandra Cibu Deaconu mentioned that many adolescents need help but cannot access support due to family restrictions. Cynthia Păun added that adolescents already have legal responsibilities, and access to psychological help should be a priority. The proposal was developed with the support of specialists in the field of mental health and does not exclude the involvement of parents in the therapeutic process.
