In November 2025, Greece, Bulgaria, and Romania will sign a cooperation agreement in Brussels to implement a vertical axis of road and rail transport. This axis will connect the Black Sea (Constanta) with the Aegean Sea (Alexandroupolis, Thessaloniki) through Bucharest, using a highway and a modern railway. The European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, emphasized the importance of this project, describing it as an absolute priority that will bring significant benefits to Europe and the involved countries. The new axis will play a crucial role in military mobility, considering the need to strengthen infrastructure for the rapid movement of equipment. The funding for the project will come from European funds and national resources, and the ports of Greece will become key points for European trade, facilitating transport to central Europe and the eastern part of the continent. The project will stimulate not only military and commercial activity but also tourism, allowing for easier travel between Thessaloniki and the rest of Europe.
