The duel took place at Arthur Ashe Stadium, the largest tennis arena in the world, with a capacity of 23,771 seats. At 28 years old, Ruse, ranked 63rd in the WTA, was unable to cope with the superior skill of her opponent. With this victory, Pegula advances to the second round, where she will face the winner of the match between Venus Williams and Sofia Kenin.
