Gabriela Ruse was eliminated in the first round of the Grand Slam tournament at the US Open, after losing to American player Jessica Pegula, ranked 3rd in the WTA, with a score of 6-3, 6-2, in a match that lasted one hour and 23 minutes. The duel took place at Arthur Ashe Stadium, the largest tennis arena in the world, with a capacity of 23,771 seats. At 28 years old, Ruse, ranked 63rd in the WTA, was unable to cope with the superior skill of her opponent. With this victory, Pegula advances to the second round, where she will face the winner of the match between Venus Williams and Sofia Kenin. Romania still has one representative in the competition, Sorana Cîrstea, who will play against Austrian Julia Grabher. The US Open takes place between August 30 and September 13, with total prizes of 108 million dollars.
