Gabriela Ruse advanced to the Korea Open quarterfinals after defeating Yeonwoo Ku

Gabriela Ruse reached the quarterfinals of the Korea Open tournament in Seoul on Thursday after defeating home representative Yeonwoo Ku 2-6, 7-6, 6-1.

The South Korean player made the better start and won the first set 6-2. Ku continued to apply pressure and led 4-2 in the second set, but Ruse fought back and changed the course of the match. The Romanian managed to take the set to a tie-break, which she won to level the match.

In the decider, Gabriela Ruse dominated play and won 6-1, securing qualification after two hours and 16 minutes of play. The victory is all the more significant given that the Romanian athlete had to come back after losing the first set and falling behind her opponent in the second.

In the quarterfinals, Ruse will face Hungary’s Anna Bondar, who is ranked 69th in the world. For reaching this stage of the competition, the Romanian will receive $7,025 and 54 WTA ranking points.
