Romania and Bulgaria have announced the completion of the joint design of the Maritime Security Hub in the Black Sea, a project that will be located in the cities of Constanta and Varna.
Foreign Minister Oana Ţoiu stated that this hub has the main objective of increasing the capacity for joint analysis of risks in the region, considering hybrid threats. The project will enable regional cooperation, including with the Black Sea coastal states, and will support the protection of critical maritime infrastructure.
Romania also proposes to host the EU Maritime Security Center, part of the European Union's Strategic Approach to the Black Sea, which aims to strengthen security and resilience in the region. This strategy emphasizes the geostrategic importance of the Black Sea, considering the security context generated by Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
The hub will facilitate the exchange of information and cooperation in the field of maritime security, including the monitoring of critical infrastructure and operations for exploring energy resources.
