The high voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine cable project that will connect Romania to Georgia through the Black Sea is advancing to the technical preparation stage, following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Transelectrica and the Georgian State Electrosystem (GSE).

This partnership will enable the construction of energy infrastructure that will facilitate the transport of electricity between the two countries, contributing to energy security and the integration of renewable sources into the European system. The project, estimated at 3.5 billion euros, has already surpassed the feasibility study stage and is included in the Ten-Year Network Development Plans of ENTSO-E.

The submarine cable will be approximately 1,200 kilometers long and will create a new energy transport route from Azerbaijan, through Georgia and Romania, to Hungary and other European markets.

The project company, Green Energy Corridor Power Company, will coordinate the implementation of the investment, which is part of the Strategic Partnership Agreement in the field of green energy signed by the governments of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, and Hungary.
