The United States Embassy in the Republic of Moldova has announced the launch of a working group to build the Strășeni-Gutinaș power line, known as the “Trump Liberty Line.” The project, backed by a $130 million investment approved by the US Government, is intended to strengthen the Republic of Moldova’s energy security and independence.
The working group brings together the Ministry of Energy, grid operator Moldelectrica, US company Black & Veatch, and the US Embassy in Chișinău. The announcement was made following a meeting held last week.
The line will have a total length of 190 kilometers: 70 kilometers in the Republic of Moldova and 120 kilometers in Romania. Once completed, it will be the third 400 kV overhead power line connecting the two countries and will enable the Republic of Moldova to receive more reliable energy from European markets.
The US Embassy says the project will create opportunities for US companies and facilitate the use of technologies in areas such as transmission infrastructure, grid optimization, communications, nuclear energy, and battery storage. The project had been approved by the US Government one year before the launch of the working group.
