Searches at Botoșani County Hospital in an embezzlement and abuse of office case

Employees of the Mavromati Botoșani County Emergency Hospital are being investigated in a criminal case in which investigators are examining possible acts of embezzlement and abuse of office. Searches were carried out as part of the investigation, while prosecutors are checking how controlled medicines may have been managed and how working time was recorded.

According to investigators, some medicines may have been taken, although they appeared in the records of patients who arrived at the Emergency Department. The substances allegedly were not administered to them, and the documents may have been used to justify their disappearance.

The investigation also concerns timesheets that may have inaccurately recorded certain employees as being present at work on weekly rest days. Although they allegedly did not work, they may have received salary entitlements for those days.

The investigation is continuing under the supervision of the prosecutor from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Botoșani District Court, in order to establish the full facts and take the legally required measures.

Mavromati Hospital was also the subject of a major investigation in 2023, when nearly 100 searches were carried out at the medical facility, the County Council and the Botoșani branch of the Social Democratic Party. At the time, prosecutors examined alleged fraud in competitions and examinations for filling certain positions during the 2018–2023 period.
