The former manager of Botoșani County Emergency Hospital “Mavromati” reached a plea agreement with prosecutors from the Suceava DNA office in a case concerning the rigging of recruitment exams, staff hires and transfers. The agreement was sent to the Botoșani Tribunal for validation.
According to investigators, between December 2021 and July 2022, he allegedly received €11,000 and gold jewelry worth more than 22,000 lei in 12 separate acts. In return, he allegedly approved transfers and hires, changed the conditions of recruitment exams and favored certain people in filling positions.
DNA cites one case in which the former manager allegedly received €4,000 to organize a recruitment exam for a nursing position in a closed ward. In another situation, €3,000 was allegedly paid to keep an employee in the position and subsequently hire the person on an indefinite-term contract. Prosecutors also allege that the questions for an exam reached a favored candidate.
The former manager admitted his actions and accepted a three-year suspended prison sentence, a four-year supervision period and 60 days of unpaid community service. Assets and €21,000 were placed under seizure. In the case, 12 other people had previously reached agreements with prosecutors. The investigation continues in relation to the other suspects, and the presumption of innocence applies until a final decision is issued.
