Tiberiu Alexandru Pîrvu, general director of the Plopeni Mechanical Plant, indicted for repeated bribery, has reached a plea agreement with DNA prosecutors. He is expected to receive a three-year-and-six-month suspended prison sentence and perform 120 days of community service. However, the agreement must be validated by the court.
During searches on July 23, prosecutors found cash at Pîrvu’s home, in Romanian lei and foreign currency, worth approximately 500,000 euros. According to investigators, between May and July 2026, he allegedly received 25,900 lei in three installments for approving orders and making payments to companies effectively managed by a businessman.
The case also involves Mihai Rafiu, general director of the Bucharest Mechanical Plant, Liliana Sorescu, commercial director at the Plopeni Mechanical Plant, and a company administrator. All the defendants have admitted their guilt. Rafiu is accused of having received 48,000 lei, while Sorescu allegedly received 24,250 lei, 3,800 dollars, and the equivalent of this amount in lei, in exchange for facilitating contracts and accepting goods.
Liliana Sorescu’s agreement was registered with the Prahova Tribunal on October 6. The court may reject the agreement or accept it in the negotiated form or in a version more favorable to the defendants.
Context: Before the agreement with the DNA, directors in the defense industry at the Plopeni Mechanical Plant were placed under house arrest, and employees protested
Before the plea agreement, the Bucharest Tribunal ordered house arrest for three directors in the defense industry, following a request from the DNA. The decision followed corruption allegations, with a company administrator also involved in the case.
Meanwhile, at the Plopeni Mechanical Plant, nearly 100 employees launched a spontaneous protest after learning that they could be affected by layoffs. The workers linked the situation to a period considered difficult and to the lack of leadership, after the general manager and the commercial director were placed under house arrest in the same corruption case investigated by the DNA.
