The DNA has arrested two university assistants from Constanța, accused of demanding up to 2,500 euros to pass exams

Two assistant lecturers from the Faculty of Medicine of “Ovidius” University in Constanța have been placed in preventive detention for 30 days in a corruption case involving exams and make-up colloquia in the subject of Anatomy. Two female students investigated in the same case have been placed under judicial supervision. The decision of the Constanța Tribunal is not final.

The DNA investigation began on Friday, when prosecutors conducted 26 searches, including at the headquarters of the Faculty of Medicine. Four people were initially detained for 24 hours, and on Saturday they were brought before the court with requests for preventive detention.

According to the investigators, between May and September 2026, one of the teaching staff allegedly demanded and received money from students through the other defendants. They allegedly identified the interested individuals, collected the money, and facilitated the passing of the exams. The amounts allegedly ranged from 600 euros for a colloquium to 2,500 euros for an exam, for each student.

Prosecutors have so far identified at least 15 students involved in the scheme, and the value of the bribes allegedly exceeds 37,000 euros.

The investigation is continuing with regard to other individuals as well. The DNA emphasizes that initiating criminal proceedings does not remove the presumption of innocence.
