The European aerospace group Airbus has initiated a massive recall for a significant part of the global A320 fleet, affecting approximately 6,000 aircraft, after a software issue was identified as a risk to the operation of flight control systems.
This measure was prompted by a recent incident on a JetBlue flight, which required an emergency landing due to a flight control problem. Airbus acknowledged that these recommendations will cause operational disruptions for passengers and clients, and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency will issue an urgent airworthiness directive.
Proposed solutions include reverting to an earlier version of the software and, in some cases, hardware modifications, which could ground the aircraft for weeks. The recall is taking place ahead of a busy travel weekend in the United States, thus affecting a significant number of passengers.
