A new section of nearly 10 km of modernized railway has been put into operation between Lugoj and Timișoara, part of the rehabilitation project of the Caransebeș-Arad line.

Today, a new section of modernized railway, with a length of 8.6 km plus 900 m, between Lugoj and Timișoara, part of the lot 2 Lugoj-Timișoara East, was put into operation. Representatives of CFR Infrastructure Timișoara announced that the modernized line includes 10 platforms and 5 bridges, contributing to the continuity of line II, which was put into operation on February 12, 2026.

The complex works included the installation of switches and platforms, and their completion is expected soon. The modernization of the railway infrastructure aims to increase safety, travel speed, and passenger comfort, being an important step in the development of rail transport in the region. The project is part of the rehabilitation of the Caransebeș-Arad line, with a total value of over 8.7 billion lei, aimed at reducing travel time.
