The modernization works on the railway infrastructure in the Port of Constanța have reached a physical completion rate of 89% in Stage I, carried out in the Valu lui Traian area, and 13% in Stage II, the National Railway Company CFR SA announced on Monday.
The project aims to increase transport capacity and improve the safety of freight train operations. In the first stage, the infrastructure and superstructure works on tracks 1-32 in the Valu lui Traian Waiting Group and on tracks 5-8 in the station were completed.
So far, 34.5 kilometers of railway superstructure have been completed, using 56,000 concrete sleepers and 110,000 cubic meters of crushed stone. In addition, 17 kilometers of longitudinal drainage, a 450-meter lined channel, and two prefabricated culverts have been completed.
In Stage I, tamping works, rail welding, and the installation of electrification, power supply, and signaling equipment are continuing. A total of 250 contact line poles have been installed. The contract is worth 377.5 million lei, excluding VAT.
Stage II has a design and execution contract worth 524.5 million lei, excluding VAT, and an estimated duration of 37 months: seven months for design and 30 months for execution. The works are financed through the Connecting Europe Facility, funds from the state budget, and other legal sources.
The contractor for both stages is the Bawi Construction – Swietelsky association.
