The shirt with the number 10, worn by Pele in the 1958 World Cup final, was sold at auction for 10 million dollars, becoming the second most expensive football shirt ever sold.
Pele, at just 17 years old, contributed to Brazil's victory against Sweden with 5-2, thus winning the team's first world title. The auction attracted 10 bids from over five bidders, according to the auction house. The previous record for a football shirt was set in 2022, when the shirt worn by Diego Maradona in the match against England was sold for 9.3 million dollars.
Pele, who died in 2022, remains the youngest player to score in a World Cup final, having two goals in the 1958 match. The shirt had previously been sold in 2004 for 70,505 pounds.
