FIFA has announced that the 2026 World Cup has surpassed the threshold of five million spectators, setting a new historical attendance record, coinciding with the match in the round of 16 between France and Sweden, held in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The total number of spectators reached 5,048,079, including 80,663 fans present at the stadium in East Rutherford.

The previous record, set in 1994, was 3,587,538 spectators. The 2026 edition, jointly organized by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, had an average of 64,511 spectators per match, with an occupancy rate of 99.7%. The most popular matches were Uzbekistan - Colombia, Mexico - South Africa, and Czech Republic - Mexico, held at the Azteca Stadium.

FIFA expects the total number of spectators to reach approximately seven million, reinforcing the World Cup's status as the most important global sporting event, despite controversies surrounding ticket prices.
