FIFA intends to substantially increase funding for its 211 member federations through a development program worth a total of $6.35 billion, approximately €5.5 billion, over four years. The proposal, presented in a document reviewed by The Associated Press, will be considered by FIFA’s leadership in December and is expected to be submitted for approval to the Congress in March 2027.
Each national federation could receive $25 million, equivalent to approximately €21.5 million. In Romania’s case, the funds would go to the Romanian Football Federation and would amount to an average of approximately €5.4 million per year. The sum is 2.5 times higher than the initially planned allocation of $10 million.
FIFA intends to use more than $3.5 billion from reserves accumulated after the 2026 World Cup, hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. The organization estimates revenues of approximately $15 billion for the 2022–2026 financial cycle.
The plan was sent by Gianni Infantino to the six continental confederations. However, the proposal comes amid tensions with UEFA, which is preparing a criminal complaint in Switzerland against the FIFA president over suspicions concerning the management of certain commercial rights.
