FIFA President Gianni Infantino will review on October 15 a request for each of the 211 member associations to receive at least $10 million from the organization’s reserves, estimated at approximately $6 billion. The request was made 10 days ago by UEFA and CONCACAF presidents Aleksander Ceferin and Victor Montagliani.
In a letter addressed to FIFA vice presidents and Council members, Infantino asked for the proposal to be supported by financial models, assumptions and supporting documents. These will be reviewed by the relevant committees, in accordance with the statutes and regulations of world football’s governing body.
The FIFA chief did not indicate the final amount and said that no figure can be considered a commitment until the evaluations and approvals are completed. He said he would support the highest level of additional funding that can be granted responsibly, transparently and fairly.
The October 15 meeting will take place after the withdrawal of a proposal to attract private investors to the World Cup, an initiative that sparked controversy and calls for resignations. Infantino has meanwhile proposed consultations on reforming FIFA. He is the only candidate for a new term, with the election scheduled to take place in March 2027.
