FIFA President Gianni Infantino is accused of having received a second salary in 2024, worth €1.58 million, which allegedly was not mentioned in the world football governing body's public financial report. The revelation was made by the British newspaper The Times.
According to the published information, FIFA reported €4.6 million in income for Infantino in 2024. At the same time, a financial statement filed in the United States by FWC2026 US Inc., a company involved in organizing the 2026 World Cup, reportedly indicates an additional payment to the FIFA president.
The case raises questions because FIFA has pledged to publish the president's and secretary general's salaries, bonuses and allowances annually. The Times claims that similar or even larger payments were also made in 2025 and 2026.
Miguel Maduro, former chairman of FIFA's governance committee, described the failure to disclose the sums as a possible violation of the governing body's statutes and called for an independent investigation.
The scandal comes after controversies surrounding Infantino's intention to sell part of the commercial rights to FIFA competitions to private investors. The project was reportedly rejected by UEFA, CONCACAF and AFC, and was subsequently abandoned.
