Sorin Grindeanu, the current interim president of the PSD, is currently the only candidate for the position of party president at the Congress scheduled for November 7, following the withdrawal of Titus Corlățeanu. Grindeanu proposes a team made up of local leaders and experienced parliamentarians, under the slogan 'United for Romanians. Strong, only together!'. Among the five proposed first vice-presidents are Bogdan-Gruia Ivan and Victor Negrescu, and for the position of general secretary, Grindeanu will propose Claudiu Manda.
In his letter of intent, Grindeanu emphasizes the need to return to the traditional values of social democracy and to reconnect the central leadership with local organizations. He believes that, in order to regain the support of the electorate, the PSD must promote coherent public policies and distance itself from extremist options. The Congress will also bring statutory changes, eliminating the term 'progressive' to reaffirm the classic social-democratic identity. Grindeanu took over the interim leadership in May.
