Bucharest Mayor General Ciprian Ciucu met on Monday with Croatia’s ambassador to Romania, Marija Kapitanovic, to discuss possible cooperation between Bucharest and Zagreb.

The meeting comes as Romania and Croatia are set to mark 35 years of diplomatic relations next year. According to the Bucharest City Hall, the two capitals face similar challenges, including infrastructure development, traffic, environmental protection and the strengthening of seismically vulnerable buildings.

Ciprian Ciucu said he was interested in an exchange of experience between the two administrations and in launching joint projects. “We can even exchange experiences and launch joint projects,” the mayor said.

Ambassador Marija Kapitanovic, for her part, praised the cultural events held in Bucharest, particularly classical music concerts. The discussions could lay the groundwork for institutional, cultural and administrative cooperation between the two capitals ahead of the anniversary of diplomatic relations between Romania and Croatia.
