Prime Minister Luca Niculescu stated on Tuesday, November 3, that pensions will most likely be indexed starting January 1, 2027, after two years in which increases have been blocked. The statement was made on TVR, two weeks after his appointment to office, and was the first clear confirmation of the Government's plan.

“There will be a pension indexation, most likely starting January 1, 2027. I cannot imagine that after two years there would be no pension increase,” the prime minister said.

Niculescu did not specify the percentage of the increase. He explained that the Government must wait for the data presented by the Ministry of Finance and indicated that he wants the indexation proposed by Labour Minister Petre-Florin Manole to be implemented.

The prime minister emphasized that, for the time being, he cannot make firm promises, as several scenarios are being analyzed. The decision will also determine whether the increase will be granted in a single stage or applied in installments.

Asked whether there was a possibility that the indexation would no longer be granted, Luca Niculescu replied that he was not considering this option. The size of the increase will depend on the budget figures and the final form of the draft prepared by the Government.
