Prime Minister Luca Niculescu confirmed Thursday evening that pensions will be increased in 2027, but the Government has not yet determined the percentage increase or the date when the measure will take effect. The decision will be made after all economic and budgetary data have been analyzed.

Speaking as a guest on Antena 3, the prime minister explained that Romania remains in a complex economic and budgetary situation, meaning he cannot make precise commitments at this time regarding the size of the increase or its timeline.

Niculescu said he understands pensioners’ concerns and frequently discusses the issue with his retired neighbors. He said that, for now, he can only tell them that the increase is planned for 2027.

“There will be a pension increase in 2027, but I cannot commit to the percentage or timeline until we have all the data,” the prime minister said in a conversation with journalist Radu Tudor.

The government will assess the budgetary situation and economic indicators before announcing the size of the increase and when the measure will take effect. Until then, no details have been provided regarding the mechanism through which pensions will be increased.
