Ciprian Ciucu and the mayor of Thessaloniki discussed improving the relationship between the two cities

Bucharest General Mayor Ciprian Ciucu and Thessaloniki Mayor Stelios Angeloudis discussed improving connections between the two cities, both by air and by road, on Thursday at Bucharest City Hall.

Stelios Angeloudis expressed hope that concrete steps would be taken to increase the number of direct flights by the time of their next meeting. Regarding road transport, Ciprian Ciucu proposed that the meeting in Thessaloniki should also include representatives of Sofia, in order to identify joint solutions for connections between the three regional capitals.

The administrations of Bucharest and Thessaloniki intend to prepare a memorandum by spring and discuss the project with representatives of the European Commission. Cooperation will also cover culture, education and tourism.

The two cities will mutually promote their tourist attractions, while Bucharest’s universities will be presented to young Greeks. The representatives of the two administrations also agreed to participate in each other’s tourism fairs in Romania and Greece. The next meeting will take place in Thessaloniki.
