Bucharest General Mayor Ciprian Ciucu met with Thailand’s ambassador to Romania, Phuchphop Mongkolnavin, to discuss Bucharest’s development projects and a possible sister-city agreement with Bangkok. The meeting was announced Thursday by the Bucharest City Hall in a statement published on Facebook.
Ciprian Ciucu presented the diplomat with the capital’s major projects, including the modernization of tram lines, the rehabilitation of the district heating system, the strengthening of buildings at seismic risk, and the urban regeneration of the Old Town.
The ambassador spoke about Bangkok’s initiatives to develop parks and green spaces and proposed an exchange of experience between the two capitals. The discussions also addressed the possibility of signing cooperation agreements or a sister-city protocol.
Another topic was cooperation in education. Bucharest, an important university center, and Thailand could develop joint programs, including student exchanges and the sharing of best practices. “It is clear that we can learn from one another,” Ciprian Ciucu said.
The Thai ambassador said he was impressed by Bucharest and by Romanians’ interest in Thai culture. The capital already has cooperation agreements or protocols with cities including Ankara, Nicosia, Beijing, Chișinău, and Tbilisi.
