Bucharest’s general councillors will debate on Tuesday, October 27, the proposal to conclude a twinning agreement between Bucharest and Kyiv. The document aims to strengthen the relations of friendship, cooperation and mutual understanding between the two municipalities.
The agreement provides for cooperation in areas such as culture, education, art, science, infrastructure, investment, sports, tourism, youth, social assistance, environmental protection and emerging technologies. The municipalities will be able to organize exchanges of experience, exhibitions, festivals, workshops and conferences, and will identify joint economic and social development projects.
The parties intend to create conditions for joint economic activities and projects financed from their own or European funds. They will also provide mutual support in crisis situations, including through humanitarian, political and economic assistance. Each municipality will appoint a coordinator, and the cooperation program will be established annually.
The steps were initiated in March 2022, when the General Council of Bucharest Municipality approved a resolution to this effect. The draft agreement was subsequently sent to the Ukrainian side and received favorable opinions in August from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Development, accompanied by observations and proposals.
