Context: Georgescu has four more criminal cases
Before this new hearing, Călin Georgescu was brought in for questioning in a DIICOT case opened following allegations related to operations involving computer devices and attempts to alter data or disrupt the systems used by investigators, including by searching the villa in Mogoșoaia to identify recording equipment.
He had been placed in preventive detention since September 29, and on October 13 the Bucharest Tribunal ordered that the detention be replaced with house arrest, a decision challenged by DIICOT; the Bucharest Court of Appeal was expected to hear the challenge, while Georgescu was also being tried in other cases. During the same period, one of Georgescu’s supporters was taken in for questioning after allegedly striking two cameramen outside DIICOT, with the police opening a criminal case for assault or other acts of violence.
