AUR leader George Simion reacted on Monday after Călin Georgescu was taken in by DIICOT prosecutors, when investigators conducted five searches in Bucharest and in the localities of Mogoșoaia, Ciolpani, and Buftea. Simion described the action as an “abuse,” saying, “Any one of us could be next. Stop the abuses! Romania is a dictatorship!!!!” and challenged, from his perspective, the way the authorities intervened.
Meanwhile, Simion subsequently called on supporters to take to the streets for Georgescu, including in France and the United States. He also announced a rally in Brussels, in front of the European Parliament, while in Romania, approximately 1,000 people gathered in front of the Central Detention Facility in Bucharest, on the fifth day of protests.
