AUR claims it is not “distancing itself” from Călin Georgescu, after Simion’s name appeared in the transcripts from his new case: “It is a political process”

Călin Georgescu was allegedly intercepted in May 2025 discussing with businessman Ionel Rusen what he called his “mission” to “expose everything,” including in the case of AUR leader George Simion, according to the transcripts included in the DIICOT report proposing the arrest of the two.

The discussion allegedly took place on May 27, 2025, in a car parked in a parking lot. According to the document cited by Mediafax, Georgescu allegedly told Rusen that he still needed to get out from under judicial supervision and that he intended to obtain political asylum in Italy.

During the conversation, the former presidential candidate allegedly stated: “My mission was to expose everything. The entire system. Including Simion, in the end.” Georgescu allegedly also claimed that all political parties had “revealed themselves” and that he had the people on his side.

AUR rejected the prosecutors’ interpretation and stated that the interception, more than a year old, does not prove an intention to flee. The party claims that the case represents “evidence” of the political nature of the investigation and that it “does not distance itself from Călin Georgescu.” AUR stated that George Simion remains by his side and described the new case as part of a “coup d’état.”
