George Simion claims that AUR is the target of a destabilization operation, launched after the party refused to support the Veștea Government. In a video published recently, the party leader accused people in the media, former AUR members, influencers, and individuals whom he claims have links to the intelligence services of trying to discredit the party and instigate criminal investigations against him and several lawmakers.
“They want to frame us for various things and arrest us too—me first and the AUR lawmakers—because they have seen that they cannot find people they can blackmail within our ranks,” George Simion said.
Simion also accused former first deputy president Marius Lulea of allegedly being blackmailed in connection with a supposed case concerning national security and relations with Russia. He also mentioned lawyer Silvia Uscov. The accusations were not accompanied by documents or public evidence.
The AUR leader also explained why he has not yet attended the protests outside the Central Detention Center. He claimed that he had received information about a possible violent provocation intended to be attributed to him, and announced that he would attend, without specifying the date. Simion also said that AUR would support the organization of a large-scale protest in favor of Călin Georgescu and that his foreign trips were aimed at internationalizing Georgescu’s case.
The statements were made after the Bucharest Court of Appeal extended, on October 28, Călin Georgescu’s pretrial detention until November 27, 2026. The former candidate is being investigated in a fraud case and benefits from the presumption of innocence.
