AUR leader George Simion called on his followers, in a message posted on Facebook, to mobilize in Romania and abroad to support Călin Georgescu. The appeal is aimed particularly at Romanians in France and the United States, whom Simion is asking to organize protests and contact him to coordinate the actions.
While in Poland, the AUR leader announced that he would speak to international participants about Călin Georgescu’s case. Simion stated that he was scheduled to go live on TVR, then take part in an online broadcast with Mario Nawfal.
The politician also announced the organization of a rally in Brussels, in front of the European Parliament, which he considers the culmination of the demonstrations in support of the former presidential candidate.
In Romania, approximately 1,000 people gathered Saturday evening in front of the Central Detention Center in Bucharest, on the fifth day of protests. Călin Georgescu is being held in preventive detention for 30 days, as part of a DIICOT investigation into allegations of forming an organized criminal group and fraud with particularly serious consequences.
