George Simion, president of AUR, announced on Wednesday evening that the party would organize street protests after the Bucharest Court of Appeal decided to extend Călin Georgescu’s pretrial detention by another 30 days.
The decision was made by judges Andrei Buliga and Dragoș Mirea and is final. The court thus upheld the preventive measure imposed in Georgescu’s case, as part of the case in which he is being investigated.
In a message posted on Facebook, George Simion criticized the court’s ruling and challenged Călin Georgescu’s continued detention. “What did Călin Georgescu do to you that you are keeping him in detention? Dictatorships never end well!” the AUR leader wrote.
Simion stated that the party’s supporters would take to the streets in the coming days. “In the coming days, we will be in the streets until you stop the repression,” he said.
Prior to this reaction, no details had been provided regarding the schedule, locations, or scale of the announced actions. The ruling of the Bucharest Court of Appeal remains final.
