Former President Traian Băsescu claims that the PSD, a party that won 22% in the parliamentary elections, effectively controls Romania’s main centers of power following the investiture of the new Government. The statements were made on Tuesday evening on B1 TV.
"With 22% in the last elections, the PSD totally dominates power in Romania—the executive power; in Parliament, it holds the presidency of one chamber; at the Constitutional Court, it has three representatives, so it has considerable influence; at the People’s Advocate’s Office, the same applies—Ms. Weber stands at attention when she hears about the PSD, because she once tried to go against the line and nearly got thrown out, and because she understood the secret of not being removed from office, they kept her on even after she had completed her term. In other words, it does whatever it wants with power, not always what it should," Traian Băsescu said on Tuesday evening on B1 TV.
Former President Traian Băsescu claims that the investiture of the Luca Niculescu Government, dominated by PSD ministers, protects Nicușor Dan from the risk of suspension from office, since the Social Democrats would no longer have reasons to join the initiative launched by AUR.
”It’s difficult for me to tell you exactly. But in any case, through the current government, through the political solution it provided for the Government, Nicușor Dan has secured his position as President of Romania. In other words, for the time being or for a considerable period of time, there is no longer any possibility for the PSD to join the signatures submitted by AUR and suspend the president,” Traian Băsescu also stated on Tuesday evening on B1 TV.
