The National Leadership Bureau of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians designated MEP and university professor Gheorghe Piperea as the party’s proposed candidate for the Bucharest City Hall. The decision was made at the AUR leadership meeting, announced by George Simion.
The party leader stated that elections for the leadership of the AUR Bucharest organization will take place on November 14. Piperea’s designation represents the first political stage in the party’s preparations for the local elections in the capital.
Gheorghe Piperea thanked his colleagues for their support and anticipated a critical reaction following the announcement of his candidacy. The MEP stated that he does not believe he has any vulnerabilities and invited those interested to examine his work and public profile before the electoral debates begin.
Piperea recalled that he obtained a doctorate in law from the Sorbonne in 2005 and that he is a university professor and doctoral supervisor. The candidacy is to be supported במסגרת the electoral and administrative stages provided for by law.
