The leader of the AUR senators, Petrișor Peiu, stated Sunday evening on Digi24 that, in the party’s view, snap elections represent the only solution for overcoming the political deadlock. He announced that he would convey this message to President Nicușor Dan at the consultations scheduled for Monday, at Cotroceni Palace.
Peiu criticized the approach of the head of state, calling it “childish” and lacking pragmatism. The AUR senator argues that the president must take into account both the constitutional limits of the office and the political reality, as well as the difficulty of forming a stable majority.
The AUR leader also accused Nicușor Dan of having told the parties not to bring AUR into government. He rejected the argument that the party’s participation in government would affect Romania’s relations with external partners, the European Union, or NATO.
According to Peiu, AUR would have told international creditors that it did not intend to affect the state’s financial stability and that it was seeking a substantial reduction in public spending. The senator also criticized the lack of a firm reaction from the other parties to the president’s actions.
