AUR Senate leader Petrișor Peiu said Thursday, after consultations at Cotroceni Palace, that President Nicușor Dan was more open and communicative, but had not presented his plans for forming the next government. Peiu told Digi24 that AUR would not vote for any government formula in which the party is not involved and for which there is no prior governing agreement.

According to the AUR leader, the head of state asked several questions, directly and through advisers, in an attempt to understand the party’s position. Peiu argued, however, that the president had provided no explicit information about the next steps or a possible nomination for the position of prime minister.

A significant part of the discussions focused on snap elections. Representatives of the Presidential Administration reportedly tried to determine, in AUR’s view, the advantages of such a scenario. Peiu said the party’s participation in government remained just as unlikely as it had been the previous day.

The AUR leader criticized the possibility of forming a majority by attracting lawmakers who risk failing to win new mandates in the event of snap elections. In his view, such a solution would bypass political negotiations between the parties.
