A 25-year-old Ukrainian national identified as Artem S. was detained on Monday in Warsaw on suspicion of participating in preparations for an act of sabotage in Romania. According to Polish authorities, he allegedly had ties to a network coordinated by Russia’s intelligence services.
The detention was carried out in an apartment in the Ursus district under a European arrest warrant issued by Bucharest. The suspect did not resist the operation and remains in Poland pending a decision on his extradition to Romania.
Investigators claim that Artem S. allegedly took part in surveying and documenting the intended target, as well as securing the funding needed for the operation. The target was reportedly a strategic facility intended for the development of weapons and ammunition.
The case is linked to the fire that broke out on September 14 at an approximately 1,000-square-meter industrial hall in Brașov, located near the Carfil military factory, a Romarm subsidiary. The SRI and DIICOT established that the fire was deliberately started by a sabotage network coordinated from Russian territory.
In the same case, two Belarusian nationals suspected of belonging to the same cell were recently arrested in Germany. The cell allegedly targeted military and industrial facilities in several European countries.
